Flooring plays an essential role in interior design. Parquet and laminate flooring are among the most popular types of flooring. They seem similar in many ways. Grand Builder compared the two types of floor covering and found the differences between them.

Parquet is a type of flooring made of natural wood. The HDF middle layer, the backing and the surface are all made of wood. There are three types of parquet flooring: solid wood, hardwood, and engineered wood. All of them are either a single piece or multiple pieces of flooring. The parquet will not hold stains, does not absorb smells and is easy-to-install. It is durable and the ones made of hardwood have a long lifespan. Parquet flooring can fit into almost any budget.

One of the disadvantages of parquet floors is that sunlight can cause discoloration. Depending on the type of wood, it can become lighter, darker or gain a yellow tint.

Laminate flooring has a wide selection of wood, stone, and tile finishes. These are available in different colors, surface treatments, thicknesses, and styles.

Durability is the main advantage of laminate flooring. With an aluminum oxide top coat, laminate flooring holds up to scratches, dents, fading, and stains. Laminate is cheaper than parquet but it is also good quality and appearance. There’s a great laminate flooring choice for every price range. Laminate floors are easy-to-install: one board simply clicks into the other.

One of the disadvantages is that laminate flooring is not waterproof, so it is not suitable as a solid floor covering  for bathrooms, kitchens and laundries.
